What do massive layoffs at large companies mean for you? Opportunity.

What do massive layoffs at large companies mean for you? Opportunity.

During the tech layoffs in one round:

  • Amazon laid off 10,000 people in corporate and tech jobs

  • Meta laid off 11,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce

  • Google laid off 10,000, or 6% of its “lowest-performing” employees

However, while large companies were leaning out and finding ways to navigate their slow down, there were tons of growth opportunities for smaller companies and people looking for work.

While these large companies were laying people off, there were  5.75 million people unemployed, and there were 10.7 million job openings. In other words, there were nearly 5 million more jobs than people to fill them.

At the height of the 2008-2009 recession, there were only 2 million job openings and 15 million people unemployed.

What does this mean for you?
